Refreshing a carpet without experiments
Carpet care must suit its fibres, backing and installation. Loose dirt, individual stains and deep wet cleaning are different tasks.
Read the care instructions
Check the material and manufacturer’s guidance. For rugs, consider the floor underneath; for fitted carpets, consider how they are secured. A method suited to synthetic carpet may be unsuitable for delicate fibres or dyes.
Separate routine care and stain treatment
Remove loose dirt with an appropriate vacuum setting. Do not repeatedly treat stains with different products. Colour changes, odours and unknown previous treatment warrant an assessment. Fragrance does not establish or remove the cause of an odour.
Allow for moisture and drying
Excess moisture may affect both carpet and subfloor. Method, water compatibility and drying must be agreed before wet cleaning. For a quote, provide area, material, installation type, stains and access, and say when the space must be usable again.
