Spring cleaning: a checklist for a safer routine
Break a thorough spring clean into manageable stages. Plan rooms, materials and time before emptying the first cupboard.
1. Prepare and clear the space
Decide what is realistic for one day. Clear walkways and keep only the tools you need nearby. Read care instructions and product labels. Use a suitable stable ladder, not chairs or stacked objects. Work at difficult heights requires appropriate expertise.
2. Clean one room, from top to bottom
Start with loose items and dust on safely reachable higher surfaces. Clean cupboard exteriors and accessible shelves before the floor. Use suitable products and separate cloths for kitchens and bathrooms. Never mix cleaning products. Keep children and pets away from products and wet surfaces.
3. Plan specialist tasks separately
Windows, blinds, upholstery and carpets each require a material check. A stain cannot safely be treated with every product. Divide larger tasks between visits and allow damp textiles to dry fully before use.
